Forest Learning Free Teacher Packs

The free teacher pack contains shareable Forest Learning postcards for yourself and for other school staff pigeon holes, wooden student "Wood is Everywhere" book mark rulers, an ABARES Australia's Forests at a Glance pocket book, and a 3D FSC certified tree for your classroom desk! Teacher packs are a great way to engage students and to start incorporating contexts of forests and sustainability into your classroom.

QLD : Introductory Coding Challenges

The department has contracted Grok Learning to provide a series of introductory coding challenges on their website for students in Years 3 to 10. These activities complement the department’s Queensland Coding Academy and Queensland Coding Academy: Student which support teaching and learning in Digital Technologies.

Additional free activities (through the Australian Computing Academy) and paid courses are also available on the Grok website. State school users can log in to the site through single sign-on.

Teachers should read the section on Grok Learning in the Queensland Coding Academy user guide (DOCX, 1.1MB), which contains information about how to access Grok, the user data sent to the site and an email template to send to parents and caregivers.

Woolworths Fresh Food Kids Discovery Tours are now taking bookings. Tours are running across Australia. Your class will explore the store, discovering all about the colourful world of fresh fruit and veggies and where they come from.

Whether they're a fussy eater or sweet lover, getting children to eat fruit and veggies every day can be tricky. Woolworths are on a mission to show Australian kids just how delicious, healthy, and even fun, eating fruit and veggies can be. This is why they are inviting teachers to bring their class to their local Woolworths store to discover and learn more about the colourful world of fresh produce.

66th Queensland Science Contest 2019

The Queensland Science Contest is an opportunity for Queensland students from Prep to Grade 12 to have their scientific work judged for awards and prizes.

Register your entry online and pay $5 per individual entry or $10 per group entry (maximum of 3 students per group) before Tuesday the 8th October 2019. Post, email or bring your entry (with completed consent form) to the University of Queensland for judging on either 11th (after 4pm) or 12th of October (before 9am) 2019 and pick up on the 13th October. Allow plenty of time for postage. The Awards Ceremony will be held at the University of Queensland on 26th October 2019. Winners and highly commended students & families are invited to attend the Award Ceremony via their teacher.

Minister’s Climate Challenge QLD

The 2019 Minister’s Climate Challenge is a state-wide initiative open to all Queensland students from Year 3 to Year 10. The Challenge aims to encourage creative thinking when it comes to solving the climate problems of the future.

Students will identify a local climate problem and brainstorm an innovative business or social change idea to solve it. For students to successfully complete the Challenge, they will record a two minute video of their solution.

Teachers get the opportunity to enter and win a free exclusive 45 minute workshop for their 2019 class in one Taronga Zoo Sydney's brand new immersive habitat classrooms within the new Taronga Institute of Science & Learning run by a qualified educator.

The new habitat classroom are multi-sensory spaces that will ignite your students' curiosity as they are immersed in one of three immersive learning spaces replicating a desert, woodlands and exotic rainforest environment. Animals move freely through these unique learning spaces so your students can observe natural animal behavior whilst they engage in authentic inquiry activities.

National Water Week 2018

In celebration of National Water Week, running from 21-27 October 2018, Smart Approved WaterMark has launched a national competition that encourages students to share what they think and love about water for the chance to win water efficient products for their school.

Smart Approved WaterMark’s work includes certifying water efficient products and services in Australia and Europe and providing advice to communities on saving water around the home, garden, school and business in the form of the Smart Water Advice program.

Open to students from pre-school to Year 12, the Get Creative competition invites pre-schoolers to enter by completing colouring sheets and primary and high school students to enter by creating a unique artwork submission that reflects what they love about water.

Smart Approved WaterMark will select three winners, who will each receive a prize pack for their school, which includes donations from Terracottem, Hoselink and Hunter Industries. The selection of products aims to assist schools to improve their soil, water lawns and manage their land more efficiently, ahead of summer.

In addition to the prize packs, winning schools will also receive a free Water Efficiency Audit, courtesy of Irrigation Australia Association.
