What is 3D Printing?

3D Printing is renowned as the 3rd industrial revolution, and will change the way we manufacture. Whilst 3D Printers will be used by designers, hobbyists and manufacturers, they can also be used for applications in the classroom and school. 3D Printing describes the process of making three dimensional solid objects from a digital file. Whilst a 3D Printer is a device used to build 3D objects by deposition of different kinds of materials (mostly plastic / resin / paper / sand etc.) layer upon layer. 3D printed objects are created using various materials - the two most popular materials that we range are ABS and PLA. Objects are created by laying down successive layers of material (the ABS or PLA) until the entire object is created. Each layer can be seen as a thinly sliced horizontal cross-section of the eventual object.

XYZ Printing’s STEAM Program

STEAM is a unique online curriculum exchange program suited for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) educators to incorporate 3D printing into their classroom. This program gives teachers the necessary tools to engage their students in practical real-life applications of 3D printing, as well as develop their critical thinking, collaborative, and problem-solving skills. K-12 STEAM’s curricula is a collection of downloadable 3D projects that instructors can incorporate into any K-12 classroom.
